Tate County Veterans Services Office Has New Face, New Location

The Tate County Veterans Services office has a new location and a new face manning the office. We are proud to announce the addition of Sybil Canon as the new Tate County Veterans Services Officer.  Sybil has a long history of service to others and in dealing with convoluted bureaucracies in her former roles as fundraiser at The Baddour Center, the Memphis Union Mission, and Northwest Mississippi Community College. Tate County Courthouse History on Display

The Tate County Courthouse is the oldest working courthouse in Mississippi. Built at a cost of $19,800, the cornerstone was laid June 24, 1875. The courthouse opened for business in 1876 and has been in continuous use ever since.  An expansion in 1905 added a south wing and extended the west wall. A major restoration and addition was dedicated in 1999.  The Circuit Clerk and other offices moved in and were open for business by 2000. Corps of Engineers Updates Supervisors on Arkabutla Dam Status

Monday, March 3, representatives of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District updated the Tate County Board of Supervisors about repair plans for the Arkabutla Dam. Dam Safety Program Manager Mason Jarabica led the discussion aided by Natural Resource Officer Chris Gurner, Operations Project Manager Matt Pierce, Arkabutla Lake Resource Manager Jamie Hissong, and Public Affairs Deputy Chief Erin Hern of USACE. Safe repair requires building a new outlet structure at the dam while making sure the current outlet functions throughout construction.  Keeping the current outlet working while building the new outlet is essential to keeping downstream communities [...]
